Pop Culture Mysteries

The mean streets of the City of Angels aren’t for just anyone, kid.

I’ve walked them my entire life. I’ve come to know them. I’ve grown to hate them.

There’s two types of people in Tinseltown.

There’s the super-rich, the ultra-wealthy. They’re the beautiful people with charmed lives, the ones whose mugs you can’t help but see everyday staring at you from your television, magazine covers, or the Interwhatever.

They’re the rare few who’ve had their dreams come true. Their lives are the stuff that unicorns are made of, all wrapped up in a pretty pink box with a shiny blue ribbon tied around it.

Then there’s the others – the dumbbells who hopped on a bus to Lalaland with nothing but five bucks in their pockets, a song in their hearts, and a dream in their souls. If they’re lucky, they end up grilling my dinner at the diner or stitching up the bullet holes in my dry cleaning.

The unlucky ones?  You don’t want to know what happens to them.

My employer, Bookshelf Q. Battler, is obsessed with this godforsaken burg.

Can anyone blame him?   At this precise moment in time, America is more entertained than it ever has been in the past. The maw of the everyday run of the mill entertainment consumer is gaping, and Hollywood’s wheels can’t spin fast enough to shovel more schlock into it.

Some folks just take in their entertainment then never think about it again.  Bookshelf Q. Battler on the other hand…that fella is full of questions about popular culture.

You might even call these inquiries…POP CULTURE MYSTERIES.

The nerd asks the questions, his attorney, the delicious dish Delilah K. Donnelly delivers them, and who finds the answers?

Yours truly.  Jake Hatcher.

I fell asleep in 1955 and woke up in 2014.  BQB has promised to explain to me how I got here and how to get home after I solve 100 pop culture mysteries.

Hell, maybe you can even help me out.  I’m told you can tweet your questions to @bookshelfbattle or write them in the comments below.  I have no idea how to do any of that myself.  To me, fancy newfangled beep boop machines are the greatest mystery of all.

Here’s what I’ve worked on so far:

Pop Culture Mysteries:  Enter the Blonde – Delilah and I meet and come to an agreement on to how to handle BQB’s questions.

Case File #001 – Here’s a Story – What happened to the original Brady Bunch spouses? (Or, what happened to Mike Brady’s first wife and Carol Brady’s first husband?)

Case File #002 – Who Shot First? -In Stars Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, who shot first in the cantina scene?  Was it Han Solo or Greedo the Bounty Hunter?
