For me, I’d have to say The Dresden Files. I know there was an attempt at a TV show that didn’t take off, but with the right people behind it, I feel like a Dresden Files movie would be pretty spectacular.
How about you? What book would you like to see turned into a movie?
I would love Cinder by Marissa Meyer or The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness to be a movie 🙂 Since I love science fiction so much those two would rock!
I will have to check those out. I too am a sci-fi nerd. I’ve been meaning to make this blog more science fictiony.
I would love to see The Wheel of Time series turned into movies but at the same time I would be so scared that they would just ruin it because it’s such a detailed, intensive series.
Those books look good but they are so enormous, you’re right, I don’t know how you’d condense even just one into a movie.
They are so good but yes, definitely enormous. Took me 10 years to read them all.
None. The movies have the difficult task of squeezing a book into 2 hours. That means you have to leave a lot of elements out that make your favorite book amazing. Combining characters, character development, back story, etc. I usually leave those movies disappointed.
True. Although I thought Gone Girl was a pretty decent movie adaptation, I did later read the book and there was a lot left out of the film. Been meaning to post about it.
Just going to go a little old-school here . . . In 1987, Timothy Zahn wrote a little-known book called Triplet, about three worlds located one within the other. One world is a bleak mountainous nothing; the next world in is a sparkling golden desert where they have phenomenal technology; and deep within is a dark world of magic and demons. I would cast Amber Tamblyn as the main girl, Jeremy Renner as her guide (the two of them had fantastic chemistry on The Unusuals) — and the guy who played Phil Coulson as her bodyguard. I think this could be seriously rollicking.
Agent Phil Coulson from the Avengers? Hmm…I dunno, if we’re hiring bodyguards, I’d have to go with someone like The Rock. But then again I never read the book so maybe he makes sense. Sounds like an interesting concept.
He’s one of those sneaky clever bodyguards rather than one of those blow em up bodyguards 🙂 It’s a great book, late 80s-type scifi.
One that’s coming soon – Ready Player One. I can’t wait. I would like to Robin Hobb’s Fools Assassin series made into a show if it had the right budget….
I’ve heard a lot of good things about Ready Player One.
