As a dad of teenagers, what about Emo, Dub-Step, Techno..although, I’ll admit they sound like recycled past genres of music.
I dunno…I feel like there hasn’t been a huge sea change between the generations as to pop culture. I knew stuff my parents were into because it was black and white whereas there are some 90s movies and music that I would put up against anything from today.
I think there will be new names of types of music, but the differences between types will become ever more subtle, and really only recognized by the people that are within those particular scenes, probably mostly young people that are trying to establish identities. There will be two different types of instruments of course probably, but I think the range of human hearing in the types of sound it is capable of producing for our experience and perception is limited, and I think we’ve kind of exhausted the general forms of those possibilities.
Agreed, unless they invent a new instrument or technology.
