Game of Thrones – Season 5 – Episode 1 – “The Wars to Come” – Wrap-Up

Dang!  That was one badass premiere!

In the name of the Seven, know that there will be SPOILERS ahead:

Let’s discuss!

  • Young Cersei visits a witch who predicts a younger, prettier woman will take her place.  Is it Margery or Dany?  Someone else we haven’t thought of yet?
  • It’s the buddy cop duo of Varys and the Imp!  Tyrion drank himself across the Narrow Sea but now he’s ready to visit Mereen and join up with Dany.
  • Speaking of, the Mother of Dragons has some rebellious kids.
  • The show still manages to surprise – i.e. the death of White Rat
  • Will Dany reopen the fighting pits?
  • Will Jamie go against Tyrion?
  • Will Cersei still marry Loras?
  • Was I the only one who thought Mance would reconsider and bend a knee as the fires began to grow?
  • Beware the Red Lady.  Beware any character who has their own background music.

  1. I definitely thought Mance was going to give in! Poor Mance. The wildlings are going to be pissed.

  2. I really thought for a second at the end Mance might kneel. I wish his character had more time to shine on this show. I really loved the scenes with Tyrion and Varys. I can’t wait for them to meet up with Dany. The flashback was interesting too. I feel like the young Cersei did a great job in that small role.

    • They did a good job of building that up…Mance acts like he doesn’t care that he’s dying, then hears it will be by fire and becomes concerned…the fire starts slow, you see the worry on his face…you start thinking eh come on Mance, the deal isn’t that bad.

I also forgot to mention a big reveal – it was confirmed that Lancil did somehow orchestrate Robert’s death…how exactly I don’t know…I assume just bringing him more wine until he got to drunk to hunt or something.

    • I was really looking forward to some Jon and Mance interactions. I guess I’ll have my wish come true.

  3. It was okay. I was a bit disappointed that it was only 55 minutes long, and 5 of those minutes were recap. And I was disappointed there wasn’t any Arya, but she’s my girl. Podrick and Brienne are the best. Petyr Baelish creeps me out and Sansa needs to get right. I think that’s it on my part.
