Game of Thrones Recap – Episode 7, Season 7 – The Dragon and the Wolf

I’m so sad, 3.5 readers.

One of my favorite shows will soon come to an end…next summer…because they’re making us all wait.

I have to say I have been long waiting for the big, final battle over King’s Landing between the Lannisters and the Khaleesi.  I always assumed that would come first and then the winner would face the White Walkers.

Not so fast as there was a truce.  The Dragon Queen and the Bitchy Queen will hold onto their menstruations for now in order to face the greater white walker threat.

Not exactly the outcome I was hoping for, but perhaps it will pay off in the next season.

I feel a little cheated that these seasons are shorter, but I’ll wait and see.  Perhaps the showrunners know what they are doing.

For a moment, it was looking like there would be a sad showdown between Sansa and Arya, only to see them turn on Littlefinger.  Unlike the Internet, I was sad to see Littlefinger go.  All of the other characters were born into their wealth and prestige.  Littlefinger actually had to work for it.  Sure, he was a douche, but when you only have yourself to rely on, you have to be that much douchier.

During the truce scene, I kept waiting for Cersei to spring a trap.  Maybe all her guests would be killed ala the Red Wedding but nope, no cigar.

The big secret of the show is revealed.  Jon Snow is not a bastard.  He is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyana Stark.  That means as the oldest male Targaryen he is the rightful ruler of Westeros and oh yeah, since he didn’t know and boned the Khaleesi, he is now an Auntie fucker.

Oh well.  The Targaryens keep it in the family.

Wasn’t it sad to see the Wall go?  It’s been a menacing presence for years only for a damn fire breathing zombie dragon to make short work of it.

What’s next, 3.5 readers?

I totally shouldn’t have read this as I have had no tv for months and haven’t seen ANY of this season! 😱

On the other hand I must console you on the loss of a beloved series, though you can always re-watch it right? Either that or re-read it, or perhaps start a similar set of books *cough like mines cough cough😉* and get over the mourning period with a honeymoon period on another series 😏

I can’t wait to dive into this season, though I have heard that it has started not to make much sense. What’s your thoughts there?

    • I’ve noticed most shows string audiences along for years only to rush the ending. I think we deserved two full seasons but I’ll reserve judgment till the end.

The big thing is that all rules about how long it takes to get around the kingdom are gone. In the past, characters would be walking somewhere for months, now they say we’re going there and they’re there. Maybe they ran fast or maybe they just skipped the long walk part and we are to assume weeks went by in the interim,

They did something great by taking a complicated series and making a decent show out of it. I hope they don’t screw up the end.

Problem is George RR endings are screwed up to begin with.

Yeah he is kind of known for it I suppose, only time will tell. A pain that they are holding off for ANOTHER year though. That just seems excessive and wholly unnecessary — though perhaps I will have been able to catch up by then.

I can’t believe I have to wait a year. Tormund better make it because he needs to make babies with Brienne! I enjoyed the episode and love that Theon finally finds his moral center and is going to save his sister who was the only one who defended him although what she’ll do when she sees him again is a whole other story. I hope the writers don’t mess up her character too much when we see her again. It was nice to see LF finally get his comeuppance. We had to wait 7 seasons for it but it was good. I liked it all except for the Jonaerys part. I don’t see any chemistry between them and maybe it’s because he had way more chemistry with the wildling and it was smoking. This one was, eh, meh. Maybe a hot tub would have helped.

    • Am I the only one that gets Dany is Jon’s aunt? Lol…they need to address that next year.

In Theon’s defense was there anything he could have done to stop Euron at that moment?

Am I the only one who liked Littlefinger?

      • Liz says:

You’re not the only one, but I guess people have been shipping them forever. I just don’t see it in the actors. Either that or too much of the staring going for too long.

Theon couldn’t have done much but his talk with Jon helped him find what was worth fighting for. And at least, he realized that he was still also a Stark.

LF was a good character. He didn’t suffer long enough though LOL

  4. Okay I hate to be a downer here, but I’ve read multiple reports that we may have to wait until 2019 for the final season! Wahhhhhhh! 😦

    • If they have to in order to make it better, that’s ok. I’m not sure how though as they’ve announced it will be next year. I just don’t want to see a dumb, hastily slapped together ending as many shows have been known to do. And it can’t be one of those up for interpretation, you figure out what happened endings either.
