Apple Watch

Is anyone going to get one?

If you there’s a phone in your hand that does everything a smart phone can do, why do I need a watch on my wrist that provides a smaller version of the smart phone?

Am I missing something?

Maybe it is a sign of your readership demographic but I can’t see the point either…unless the watch replaces the phone…which I gather it doesn’t…and actually needs a phone to make calls I believe. Until they come up with fancy Star Trek style devices, why waste the money on gimmicky rubbish.

    • Sometimes we’ve seen these futuristic things on TV for so long that we’re shocked when they come out and we no longer need them. Dick Tracy had a communicator watch a long time ago before the cell phone was ever conceived of.

The only reason I’d consider buying it is for the heartrate monitor…but I can get a fitbit with a heartrate monitor for a lot cheaper, so.

    • They might make it easier to listen to music while you exercise…wear the watch on your wrist and pair it with wireless headphones so you aren’t dropping your phone or strapping your phone to your arm.

I tried exercising once. I got half way through the gym parking lot one time.

I mean, when I run, I use the fitbit app on my phone to track my speed and distance and listen to music…the only thing that would be different about the watch, I guess, is that you wouldn’t have to hold it. But they have arm straps for phones, too—I just don’t have one.

Then again, almost everyone I know said “Why would I need a phone with access to the internet?” before smart phones and look where we are now.
