Amazon has released a $50 tablet.
They’re so cheap you can buy a 5-pack for $250.
Use them as stocking stuffers. Hell, leave one by your bed, one in your car, one at the office, one on your kitchen table, toss them all over and you won’t be without a tablet next time you need one.
Does your kid keep bugging you for your tablet? Give them this one so they won’t get their greasy fingers all over yours.
Are they any good? God I hope not or else I overspent on my last tablet.
What’s Amazon up to? Assumably, they want to get their products into the hands of as many people as possible and are reaching into the market of folks who normally couldn’t afford a tablet…which is a good thing.
That or perhaps with Apple and Samsung tearing up the tablet market, perhaps they might think “$50 bucks could convince an Apple user to try us out.”
And they’re right. I’ve been curious about Kindle, but not enough to abandon my iPad. $50 might convince me to check it out.
What will it mean for us aspiring scribes? More people with tablets=more readers?
More readers for other people. I only have 3.5.
I heard about this one. I just bought a new tablet, but maybe I’ll buy one of these. I hope it’s not crappy.
I’m getting one for my birthday. First tablet I will ever own. Should be interesting 😀
Let us know how it works out!
After spending way too much on an iPad, mostly to use it as an e-reader, and discovering that I don’t really like e-readers, I don’t think I’ll be shelling out for another tablet regardless of how cheap it is. I can see this being great for kids who demand to play with their parents’ phones and tablets, though!
So you just read those pesky print books?
Oooh let’s not go there, my friend. I will always prefer print over digital or e-ink. Just *holding* a book in my hands makes me feel at home. 🙂
Agreed. I still think library books are the cheapest way to get books and I don’t know why people don’t go for them more. I guess it’s the instant gratification. Pay for a book, you’re out the money but you’ve got it in hand instantly.
Kindles (the ereader not the tablet) are far better than an iPad for reading simply because of the screen which is tailored for it. The Kindle does one thing and does it really well. I could not sit and read an iPad for hours as it is backlit and leads to eye strain for me. But each to their own I guess.
I’ve never tried Kindle but I have seen them and I know I have been bothered by the glare of other devices, so Kindle is onto something there.
