If anyone has any theories about the price of an hour of a prostitute’s time in 1880 (times twice a week on average for six months) I’m all ears.
I attempted to figure it out and having no luck, decided to be vague about it.

According to historian Ruth Rosen, who pioneered the social history of prostitution in the United States, “The average brothel inmate or streetwalker” — the lowest positions in the trade — “received from one to five dollars a ‘trick,’ earning in one evening what other working women made in a week.”
Oh my God! I was going to guess 5 bucks!
And then I figured $5x 2 visits a week = $10 a week X 4 weeks in a month = $40 X 6 months = $240
So I was going to have Bonnie hand over $240 or maybe call it an even $250 but then I began to wonder whether the salary of a Marshal would have allowed him to have spent that much on a prostitute.
Not that not being able to afford it has stopped men before but I worried maybe he literally would not have had enough money.
So I guess I’ll leave it vague. I know no matter what price I quote some nerd will complain.
in the 1870s, marshalls drew a salary of 90/month. deputies were unpaid. they got piece work. 6 cents per mile while tracking a bad guy or delivering summons. $2 bonus upon delivery of bad guy or summons. LOL
Hmm. So he could have afforded it…not easily though as it’d of been half his pay every month but still possible.
I think I’ll still leave it open as I know there will be people who start doing math and decide they have a better idea of how much it cost. Even though I guessed right basically.
There’s room for fudging so we’ll forget this as pertains to Gunther and assume he also got a salary. One dollar a day for the specials i.e. the Knoxes and Joe Freeman while they were babysitting the Buchanans sounds about right.
Well you established slade was living in the marshall’s office so he could have blown half his salary on miss bonny. LOL
