Daily Discussion with BQB – The Guy That Was Dragged off the United Airlines Flight

Here’s my take on it, 3.5 readers.

On the one hand, the idea that you can purchase a ticket to leave on a flight at a certain time and yet be moved off of that flight even though you have plans and you’re on a schedule totally sucks.  If the airlines depend on seats to move their employees where they need to go, then they should keep a certain amount of seats open and eat the cost.  If the distance isn’t even that far, say four hours or less, the company should rent a van for the employees to drive to the next location rather than bump paying passengers.

On the other hand, rightly or wrongly, this is a legal practice.  I’m sure buried 10,000 lines down into the fine print on your ticket for any airline and not just United, that the company reserves the right to bump you off a flight.  It sucks, but as long as it’s legal, people have to comply with it.

Yes, complain.  Yes, raise a stink.  However, once the cops get involved…leave.  There’s a disturbing societal trend where people think they have a right to not comply with the police.  Even the worst lawyer will tell you that if you think you’re being unjustly hassled, just shut up, do as the cops say, and then if you really have a case, sue later.

In this case, the guy should have walked away rather than be dragged away.  Take the next flight, then sue for the cost of your missed work, any burdens you suffered, etc.

This is probably a learning lesson that the law should be changed and airlines shouldn’t be allowed to overbook and passengers should have a right to expect that a ticket on a plane at a certain time means they can to leave on a plane at a certain time.  However, as long as this is the law, suck it up, leave, and then seek whatever legal action possible to reimburse whatever the delay cost you.

Will we ever get to Mars, 3.5 readers?

If so, what will we do when we get there?

Daily Discussion with BQB – Where Will Self Publishing Be in Five Years?

What advances will happen?  Will it still be thriving?  Will new sites and forms of technology arise to make the work of a self publisher easier?  Will things get harder?  Will the traditional publishing industry, much like the Empire, find a way to strike back?

More importantly, will I ever have more than 3.5 readers?

Discuss, 3.5 readers.

Daily Discussion with BQB – The Oakland Raiders are Moving to Las Vegas

The Oakland Raiders are moving to Las Vegas, 3.5 readers.  I suppose that’s sad for the people of Oakland but good for Vegas, since it’s a popular tourist destination city and thus could make a lot of money by having an NFL team.

Otherwise, do we really have an opinion on this?  We’re all nerds who don’t know anything about football here, right?  What say you, 3.5?

Daily Discussion with BQB – That Scene in Michael Jackson’s “Beat It…”

…where the two dudes get their hands tied together, thus allowing them to have a knife fight to the death because neither is able to run away is by far the most awesome, totally gangster scene in music video history.

Daily Discussion with BQB – Has Anyone Ever Used Patreon Before?

Hey 3.5 readers.

BQB here.  Who else would it be?

Have any of you ever used Patreon before?  Any results you care to discuss, good bad or indifferent?

I always thought of it as a way for people to be online panhandlers.  “Hey, drop a few bucks into my online change cup, will ya?”

Sure, I’m working on books I hope to sell, but that will be up to all 3.5 of you if you want to buy them.  Other than that, I don’t want to be begging for money and stuff.  Seems cheap and tawdry.

But I noticed that some people have like incentives.  For example, some writers will write stories that only their “patrons” can see by donating.  In theory, I suppose that’s an actual transaction.  The writer gave his work and got money.  The reader gave his money and got something to read.  Quid pro quo.  It’s not as bad as, “Hey, I’m sitting alongside the virtual subway, harassing you till you give me some dough.”

I mean, who are these people who donate to Patreon anyway?  I have literally gone without things I need just because I’m too lazy to pull out my credit card and enter the numbers in order to order it.  That’s why Amazon gets so much business.  They know people are lazy so they store your credit info and then you can order shit and still be lazy.

So a) I’m cheap and b) I’m lazy so I just can’t imagine finding myself to donate to someone’s Patreon.  On the other hand, apparently some artists do well with it, but for whatever reason, it just seems weird to me.

In general, I want to give and get and return and not be a sponge.

4 Books in 1 Year

It’s adventurous and unlikely but I hope to self publish 4 books this year.

Part of the trick is I’m trying to convince myself to be less of a stickler for perfection and churn those books out.

I’ve got covers for BQB’s Writing Prompts, Zom Fu and Zomcation.  I have one more in mind though I’ll hold back at this time.

I probably should have finished the books before ordering the covers but oh well, it makes me happy.

Do you think it is possible 3.5 readers?

Daily Discussion with BQB – Death and Children

Well…that’s kind of a scary title for a blog post but don’t worry, I’ll make sense of it in a minute.

A kid from my graduating class at East Randomtown High School died this week.  Late thirties.  I can’t say I was friends with him but there wasn’t any reason for that.  Our paths just didn’t cross that much.  I have memories of being a nice little kid and playing with him at recess and stuff but other than that, I didn’t know him as an adult or anything.

Makes me sad…a) because you never know how much time we have left and b) they guy was in better shape than I am so holy shit, I should probably skip the next donut.

Oh what the hell.  Give me the donut.

Video Game Rack Fighter and I don’t have children.  It saddens me.  Thought I would by this age.

Men apparently have biological clocks too.  I mean, sure, in theory, a seventy year old man can knock up a chick but that’s a) if you make it to 70 and b) it won’t be that much fun to be a dad because you’ll be too tired to play with the kid and c) really, only a select handful of men can pull off impregnating a younger woman.

Ahh, you forgot that part.  A 70 year old man can’t impregnate a 70 year old woman i.e. a woman in his league because her lady area is all dried up and filled with bats and spiders and so on.

Not that I’m knocking the older gals.  I’m sure old men probably just have a little flag that shoots out of their privates that reads, “Thanks for playing.  Try again.”

Anyway, only super rich 70 year olds can woo and knock up a younger woman.  Like our 45th POTUS, the Trumpster, for example.  He knocked up a younger woman when he was 60 and now he has a ten year old at 70.

Good for him, but I don’t own any skyscrapers that I can point to when I’m 70 and say, “Hey, younger women, I own this and I can give you a good life so please allow me to impregnate you and a good time will be had by all.”

That’s exactly how I’d say it too.  I’m such a romantic.

Just saddens me all around.

Because now I’m just thinking like, realistically, even now I’m pushing it and at best I have a couple years left to put a bun in the oven before I’m the oldest baker at the kid’s graduation.

Maybe I should just adopt a bunch of poor orphans and become their father.  I can fill BQB HQ with orphans and turn the place into an orphan sanctuary.

I just don’t want to be forgotten, 3.5 readers.

What say you?
