The Walking Dead Wrap-Up – Episode – “Forgotten” – 3/8/15

You know, I thought being held hostage by a dictatorial yeti would be a nice vacation, but it looks like I’m

Rick vs. Zombie - one of the more historic bookshelf battles.

Rick vs. Zombie – one of the more historic bookshelf battles.

blogging more than ever.  Bookshelf Q. Battle Dog redeemed himself for failing to stop the Yeti’s intrusion into BBHQ by fetching me the Yeti’s Commodore 64, which I have hooked up to a gas power generator in order to connect it to the Internet.

So now it’s just me, my dog, and a suped up 1980’s computer in my basement, blogging away behind the Yeti’s back.

3.5 readers, forgive me for not wrapping up The Walking Dead this past Sunday night.  I was in the middle of attempting (and sadly, failing) to kick the Yeti out of my compound.

Now I’ve had the chance to catch up.  (TOKEN GRR ARGH SPOILERS NOTIFICATION)

Here are some observations, in no particular order:

  • Carol = the character who does things no one else wants to do in the name of survival.  Often, those things are horrible, i.e. how she threatened that kid.  Oh well, at least she offered to bake him cookies.
  • Michonne hanged up her sword.  Say it ‘aint so!
  • Rick’s going to steal the Doc’s wife, isn’t he?
  • Sasha’s freaking out that no one is worrying.
  • Daryl might get civilized yet.

Do you have any observations you’d like to make?  Post away.  I will have Bookshelf Q. Battle Dog distract the Yeti with a festive dance number so that I can read your comments without Yeti interruptions.

The Walking Dead Wrap-Up 3/01/15 – “Remember”

Grrr…argh…spoilers!!!

Daryl vs. Zombie

Daryl vs. Zombie

Rick shaved his beard off!  Carol’s sporting a sweater and baking casseroles!  And the gang have their own mansions!

The group’s been beaten down for awhile now.  They’ve gone from one bad settlement to another, facing the likes of Woodbury (where they squared off with the Governor) and Terminus (and almost got eaten by the cannibals).

Deanna the Congresswoman runs the settlement.  The place has been up and running since the beginning o the zombie outbreak.  In other words, the people are pretty soft.  They’ve had heat, electricity, all the trappings of civilization.

They’ve had to do very little fending for themselves and it shows.  Rick and the group are skeptical and wary, though it generally seems like the townsfolk are trustworthy.

Still, there are problems.  Deanna’s son Aidan claims to be the big tough guy but makes rookie mistakes.  He keeps a walker hanging on a tree so he can torture it once in awhile as retribution for killing his friends.  Glenn and Tara are aghast.  As veteran zombie fighters, they realize it just doesn’t make sense to hold a grudge against a zombie.  Kill it to keep it from being a threat and that’s it.  The thing doesn’t know what it is doing so you’re only putting yourself at risk by keeping it alive and torturing it.

The viewer is left with the feeling that the town should be more afraid of Rick than anything.  Rick shaves his beard and puts on a fresh police officer’s uniform.  Eerily at the end, he tells the group that if life in the town doesn’t work, then they’ll just “take over” the town.

Is Rick slowly becoming a bad guy or is he just keenly aware that possible threats are everywhere?

By the way, I hope you like the latest battle on my bookshelf – Daryl vs. a Zombie!

Attack of the Killer Mutant Fish 4 – Trailer

Alright.  After four days, the film is in the can.  God made his masterpiece in seven days.  I made mine in four.

And just in time for Oscar night.

Here’s the trailer:

Ominous music…

MOVIE TRAILER GUY:  This summer…pet store owner Fred Jones is going to feel like a fish out of water…

FRED:  All day long I feed the fish.  I clean the tanks.  I watch them swim around.  I’m tired of the monotony.  I need a change.

MOVIE TRAILER GUY:  He’s a man with a troubled past…

GENERAL SMITH rips off FRED’S stripes.

GENERAL SMITH:  Every last man in your unit was eaten by a killer fish and what did you do?  You ran away like the pathetic, sniveling pansy that you are!  You make me sick!  Get out of my sight!

FRED:  Well, I guess I have nothing to do now but move to my hometown and start up a pet store.  But God as my witness, if I’m ever given the opportunity to save people from fish again, I’ll save every last one of them!

MOVIE TRAILER GUY:  There’s a lot at stake for Fred, and he might lose the love of his life in the process…

FRED’S GIRLFRIEND:  I just feel like you love this stupid pet store more than you love me.

FRED:  Well one of us have to have a job, Fred’s Girlfriend!

(Fred’s Girlfriend stomps out of the store)

FRED:  No!  Wait!  Fred’s Girlfriend!  Come back!

MOVIE TRAILER GUY:  And when a mad scientist enters the mix…

MAD SCIENTIST:  You ignored my warnings to preserve the environment, world!  Now I’ll teach you a lesson by ushering in a new age of mutant fish masters!

(MAD SCIENTIST dumps toxic waste into fish tanks.  Fish become enormous)

FRED:  Thank God I kept this shotgun under my counter just in case I ever have to kill a bunch of murderous fish!

(FRED cocks the gun – shoots at the fish)

FRED’S GIRLFRIEND:  I’m scared, Fred!

FRED:  Just stay behind me, Fred’s Girlfriend!  I’ll keep you safe!

MOVIE TRAILER GUY:  …things are about to get fishy.  Coming soon to a theater near you.

So there you have it.  Now I’m just waiting for Hollywood to back the Brinks Trucks up to my back door and unload all the sweet, sweet cash.

And no, I’m not having trouble coming up with material for this one post a day for a year challenge at all.

Attack of the Killer Mutant Fish 3 (Casting Call 3)

I’ve decided that Fred the Pet Store owner needs a love interest.  That way my upcoming film will appeal to both men and women.  Men will enjoy the action, while women will be enthralled by the romantic tale of a pet shop owner winning the heart of his lady love.

Bold move I know, to deviate from the source material, but I’m writing in a girlfriend for Fred.

JULIA ROBERTS

I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, in a pet shop full of monstrous, evil killer fish, asking him to love her.

Hmmm.  Can you read this with a Southern accent?  And also, not be old?

MILEY CYRUS

Dang y’all, there’s all like dang crazy fish runnin’ round…I better stick my tongue out at ’em!

NEXT!

DREW BARRYMORE

I’m just like…you know…thinking…that Fred, you spend so much time running this pet store?  That like…you totally forget to run the pet store inside your mind…

NEXT!

MEGAN FOX

Hi.  I’m all hot and stuff.  I’m going to stand next to these killer mutant fish and look totally hot.

When can you start?

“We Are the Walking Dead” – Walking Dead Recap 2/15/15

GRRR…ARRRGH…SPOILERS!

“We are the Walking Dead.”

Was Rick’s statement in the barn tonight just a random thought or did it hold greater meaning for the show?

Rick shooting the crap out of these zombies on my bookshelf. Keep it down, guys. I'm trying to take a nap.

Rick shooting the crap out of  zombies on my bookshelf. Keep it down, guys. I’m trying to take a nap.

We all thought “the Walking Dead” referred to the zombies – does it actually refer to the human survivors?

MIND=BLOWN!

Other thoughts:

  • A big Maggie episode.  She’s heartbroken over the loss of Beth.
  • A big Sasha episode.  She’s heartbroken over the loss of Tyrese.  Two heartbroken characters tonight.
  • Sasha has become a loose cannon – diving in and risking the group…and even causing a near Rick bite!
  • Abraham slaps possibly poisoned water out of Eugene’s hand.  Aww.  He still cares.
  • Maggie a little harsh to Gabriel, though understandable.
  • Does dog taste like chicken?
  • What’s up with the kidnapped walker?  Do we ever find out how she got in the trunk?
  • How did they survive that zombie onslaught in the barn?
  • Who is this new guy at the end?  Whenever someone claims to be a friend on this show, they aren’t!

What did I miss?  Discuss!

Holy Friggin Crap

128 visitors, highest I’ve ever received – this morning alone and the day’s barely started.

Did someone put me on reddit?  If so, thank you.  I’ll have to look into reddit more.

I guess I should have Rick shoot zombies on my bookshelf more often.

Walking Dead Mid-Season Premiere 2/8/15

Grr.  Argh.  Spoilers.  Brains.

Sooo, first surprising thing, after five years of wandering through Georgia, they’re suddenly in Virginia now.  Oh well.  That’s a change of pace anyway.

Most of the episode centered around Tyrese hallucinating after being bitten.  And then that nasty scene where Michonne hacks off the infected limb with her samurai sword.  This was basically Tyrese’s character building episode.  And it almost looked like he was going to make it.

The gang decides to head for Washington, DC.

And what was up with all those zombie torsos in that truck?

Well, who else in Rick’s crew do you want to see on the bookshelf?  Michonne?  Glenn?  Maggie?  The Governor?  Eugene?  Abraham? Abraham beating up Eugene?

And who’s ready for Better Call Saul?

Vote for Walking Dead Bookshelf Battle Banners

Well, this is getting ridiculous. As my 3.5 regular readers are aware, the theme of this blog is an ongoing “Bookshelf Battle.”  I have limited shelf space.  Books want it.  They fight.  And they send soldiers, robots, assassins, ninjas, or whatever to attack each other.  Battles are constantly being waged on my bookshelf, and frankly, all the racket is keeping me up at night. So imagine my surprise when I woke up in the middle of the night last night to find none other than Sheriff Rick Grimes blasting away on zombies with his big ole revolver. Conveniently in time for tonight’s midseason premiere! I snapped a few photos of the action.  You tell me which one you like the best.

Vote for #1 - Rick blasting one solo walker.

Option 2 - Rick, more zombies, and Merle, who may or may not be a zombie.

Your Favorite Vampire Books

I just picked up a copy of Seth Grahame-Smith’s The Last American Vampire.  I’ll review it as soon as I read it, and I know, will actually stun everyone by posting a book review on my book blog.

But while we’re waiting for that, what are your favorite vampire books?

Is the vampire genre too saturated, or is there still room for a new, unique twist?

Ghostbusters Reboot

I wish it was a continuation (i.e. a sequel) rather than a reboot.

It could start with Ray (Dan Akyroyd) and Winston (Ernie Hudson) selling the old firehouse to a new group of female Ghostbusters.  After the cash is handed over and the papers are signed, Ray and Winston retire to Florida where they, oh I don’t know, become fishing boat captains.  Or buddy cops.

Perhaps this is overly-nerdy of me, but I feel like a reboot wipes out the past universe of a movie franchise, whereas a sequel continues it.

Unless you’re into varying timelines.  Or aren’t a nerd who spends too much time thinking about these things.

What say you, readers?  What are your thoughts on the Ghostbusters reboot?
