#31WaystoDefeatAVampire – Politics

Bleh!

Trump, Hillary.  Hillary, Trump.

But I’m the bloodsucker?

Makes sense, bleh.

Yes, vampires hate politics – not so much government but people who make dumb arguments on both sides and them post them all over your Facebook wall long after you’ve told them you don’t care what they think, bleh.

The quickest way to get a vampire to turn tail is to offer your dumb opinions.  We prefer to keep it light and loosey goosey.  If you can’t be friends with someone who doesn’t share your political viewpoints then you’re a bigger weirdo than I am.

Have you ever caused a vampire to roll his eyes with your political discourse?

A Thought on Campaign Funding, the Internet and Technology

shutterstock_276785897.jpg

Hello. I’m Bookshelf Q. Battler, noted ugly rights advocate, champion yeti fighter, proponent for a cure for Lightning Infused Toaster Paper Toilet Death (we must find the cure in our lifetime) and the owner of a website owned by 3.5 readers.

Blah blah blah, you know my spiel about not getting political.

But here’s a thought I wonder if everyone couldn’t consider.  And I’ll say up front, I’m not sure how it could be carried out.

It just seems like it is becoming too much that people are able to cut a check to a candidate for huge amounts of money and then say with a straight face that this transaction doesn’t mean the candidate’s loyalty hasn’t been bought or that the donator is doing it solely on ideology and not expecting some kind of quid pro quo.

The problem has always been that the money has always been needed.  You don’t take it, your opponent will, your opponent can then buy a lot of TV ads and attack you 24/7.

But look at the tech today.

First, it is easier to collect small donations from the little guy.  Few people have the attention span to remember to write a check, address an envelope and mail it to the campaign of their choice.

However, if the laptop is already on your lap, burning your genitals while you’re watching Scandal Thursday nights on ABC, it doesn’t take much effort to send your candidate whatever you are willing to part with.

Should there be a cap?  Hypothetically, yeah, if its limited to, say, a hundred dollars per person then I’m not sure the average politician would become beholden to someone for a hundred bucks.

In other words, its never been easier to collect small donations from the general public and those donations won’t necessarily lead to an unsavory phone call demanding that a politician engage in sketchy behavior.

Second, and here’s the big one – video and/or other content has never been easier to produce, create, and share.

Seriously.  If some kid in his dorm can generate a million followers on YouTube by buying everything he needs at the local Best Buy, then surely the prospective leaders of the free world can.

Really – buy ad time? Seems like an outdated concept.  Turn on your smart phone, say something controversial about your opponent, post it, and then the media will pick it up.

OLD WAY: Buy millions of dollars worth of ads to play a commercial about how your opponent is a butt face.

NEW WAY: Turn on cell phone camera.  Say, “My opponent is a butt face.” Post. Wait for major networks to report that you called your opponent a butt face. Heck, your ardent followers will even spread your message to all their friends, informing them that you think your opponent is a butt face.

IN CONCLUSION:

  • It’s never been easier to raise a lot of money from a lot of little people who don’t have the power call you at 3 a.m. to ask you to do something to compromise your integrity because of a $20 donation they made on your site.
  • Content has never been cheaper to create or share.

AND THE BEST PART:

  • The average person who is a semi-respectable, non-douche with good ideas but hasn’t spent a lifetime being a henchman/woman for people making giant donations might, just might, be able, with a few simple, affordable pieces of tech available at Best Buy, be able to spread meaningful content about his/her ideas that goes viral and becomes as formidable as content created through enormous donations, thereby allowing better, less douchy people to rise to the top.

What say you, 3.5 readers?

Who won the Presidential Debate – Trump or Hillary?

Pbbht. Yeah, I’m not going to talk about that.  I’m just putting the post out there in the name of shameless search engine optimization.

Come to me, my sweet, sweet, delicious clicks.

Talk about it if you like or if you prefer, what is your favorite kind of pizza? Personally, I like mine with a little ham, maybe some pineapple. Delicious.

Y’all been Rickrolled, baby. Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, please buy my book if I ever get around to publishing one….

Trump vs. Hillary Debate

I don’t like to get political but from a TV viewership angle, this thing is going to be YUUUUGE.  Even up against Monday Night Football, they’re expecting over 100 million people to tune in.

I don’t care who you’re rooting for, everyone is allowed an opinion.  I just hope that to get extra ratings, Trump and Hillary end up engaging in naked mud wrestling.

And honestly, I think a lot of the tension between them is sexual.  For the good of the country, they should just bang one out on live TV just to bring everyone closer together.

Only blur it out because no one wants to see that.

Zomcation – Chapter 9

shutterstock_225100087

In the election of 2016, the unthinkable happened. Republican billionaire Vincenzo “Vinny” Stugotz of New York made an alliance with Democratic Senator Mildred Pierce, a California lawyer prone to speaking in legalese, to form the first dual party ticket in modern history.

Their deal? They agreed to change positions every four years. Stugotz took the first go around as President with Mildred as VP. In 2020, they were to switch and let Mildred take the helm while Stugotz played second fiddle. Ultimately, they figured this would lead to them both having their hooks sunk into the presidency until 2032.

With nice sounding political promises to work together and heal a divided nation, the Stugotz/Pierce ticket won by a landslide against Democratic and Republican politicians who cried that it was outright blasphemy for members of opposing parties to do anything other than go on live TV and accuse each other of breathing fire, kicking babies and being the second comings of Hitler, all while average Americans sucked it up and accepted no one was ever going to solve any of their problems.

For a month, it seemed like America had turned a corner and that a brighter, more positive future was on the horizon.

But soon, it became crystal clear that Stugotz and Pierce were not going to be able to agree on anything.

It was certainly clear to General Merrick as he sat in the White House Situation Room, as he and other high ranking military men and security advisors sat back and waited for Stugotz and Pierce to resolve their latest bru ha ha.

“So we’re talking zombies, is that it?” Stugotz asked as he ran a comb through his long, luxurious, gravity defying, jet black pompadour. “Because let me tell you, no one would be better at defeating zombies than me, OK? We’re going to go after those zombies big time, you hear me? Big time. They won’t know what hit them. If you’re dead, then under a Stugotz administration, you’ve got to stay dead. No ifs ands or butts, not even some candy and coconuts, capiche?”

Mildred chimed in. “No Vinny, you right-wing fascist…”

“Don’t you ‘right-wing fascist’ me, you feminazi liberal commie,” Stugotz replied. “Go shave your armpits.”

“Look,” Mildred said. “All I’m trying to say is that before we go all crazy and blow up all the zombies, maybe we should just try to see things from the zombies’ point of view. Maybe the zombies aren’t so bad once you get to know them.”

“They’re criminals,” Stugotz said as he pounded his fist on the conference table. “Criminal zombies who won’t stop until all of our brains are devoured.”

“That’s a rather broad brush, isn’t it?” Mildred asked. “Surely there are some zombies who just end up getting confused. I would imagine there are many undead Americans who just want to keep bumping into walls until they figure out how to walk around them that don’t pose a threat to anyone.”

“Keep living in your fantasy world, pinko,” Stugotz said.

“Fine,” Mildred said. “And you can keep being a hateful, closed minded, rabid zombaphobe.”

Sitting next to Merrick was National Security Agency analyst Allan Carver.

“Are they always like this?” Merrick whispered.

“Worse,” Carver whispered back. “This is one of their good days.”

Merrick cleared his throat. “Mister President, Madame Vice-President, if I may…”

“Right,” Stugotz said. “The floor is yours.”

“Thank you, sir,” Merrick said “I’d first like to remind everyone that the debate over what to do with the quote unquote ‘zombies’ is premature due to the fact that there are no reports at this time of zombies being spotted in public.”

“Chop their ugly zombie heads off if you do see any,” Stugotz said.

“No,” Mildred said. “Herd the zombies into a nice holding area and then sign them up for free brain deliveries courtesy of the U.S. government.”

“Oh holy shit, Milly,” Stugotz said. “And where are you going to get the brains?”

“I’m sure if we think about it there are vast brain resources available,” Mildred said. “Goat brains. Sheep brains. Cow brains. Perhaps we can convince people to donate their brains to the hungry zombie cause when they die.”

“Yeah,” Stugotz scoffed. “Like that isn’t going to cost the taxpayer a pretty penny. Build a wall, make the zombies pay for it and bada bing, bada boom, problem solved.”

Merrick cleared his throat to remind his bosses that he was still there. “As I was saying, there are no reports of actual zombies roaming the streets, so I believe it would be prudent to focus on the information we have at this time.”

The general pointed a remote control at the humongous monitor that lined the wall and pushed a button. A paused video featuring the Heretic appeared.

“As we’re all aware,” Merrick said. “The Heretic released a video to the press demanding that the public implore world leaders to give in to the Day Zero cult’s demands.”

“Screw the Heretic,” Stugotz said. “Find him, lock him up, and attach a car battery to his nut sack for the rest of his life.”

Mildred clutched her pearls. “Let’s give him a break. He probably had a rough childhood.”

“Here now is the video that the Heretic sent to the leaders of every nation in the world,” Merrick said as he pushed play.

“Leaders of the world,” the Heretic said. “Your policies driven the masses to lives of crime, fighting over scraps while you all live high off the hog. You support factories that poison our water and pollute our air, all the while encouraging non-stop, reckless consumerism amongst the masses. Instead of talking your problems out, you build bombs capable of leveling entire cities to threaten one another with. Man was not supposed to live this way.”

The screen switched to footage of a cage, where a young, frightened man grabbed the bars and cried for help.

“Please!” the hostage said. “I don’t know who these people are! They just kidnapped me and dragged me here and…oh…oh God.”

A green gas filled the room. The man grabbed his throat and choked, hacked, and wheezed until he finally fell down.

“Sweet merciful crap,” Stugotz said as he watched.

Seconds later, the young man slowly stood up. His eyes were blank. He moved like a mindless automaton.

“As you can see,” the Heretic said in a voiceover, “I am, thanks to incompetent security at one of America’s many black sites, now in possession of the X48 virus, which means I now have the power to fill the world with as many zombies as I please. One whiff and a subject is zombified. Once infected, zombies are able to infect others by biting them so this is all about to get very interesting, isn’t it?”

The zombified man grabbed the bars and furiously bashed his head against them as he growled and snarled.

“Of course,” the Heretic said as his shadow returned to the screen. “It doesn’t have to be this way. Resign from office. Order your armies to stand down. Scuttle your weapons of mass destruction. Shutter all businesses and demolish all structures so that the trees and plants can heal the badly damaged ozone layer and humans are left to revert to the innocent creatures they were always intended to be. For at the end of the day, we all know the chief architects of division amongst the people are you, the leaders of the world who control their citizens as if they are puppets. This will be your only warning. Comply within twenty-four hours or enjoy the zombies.”

Merrick shut off the video.

“Holy shit,” a panicked Mildred said. “Give him whatever he wants!”

“What?” Stugotz said as he made the universally recognized ‘I’m jerking off because what you’re saying is boring me’ gesture. “General, find this guy and shoot him in the face with a nuclear warhead. Nuke him. Nuke his whole family. Nuke all his brothers and sisters and cousins. Nuke his third grade teacher. Nuke his Goddamn cat, dog, hamster, and goldfish. Nuke everyone who has ever spoken a single word to this asshole.”

“I’ve got Phalanx Company working on it as we speak,” Merrick said. “They are, without a doubt, the best of the best.”

“General,” Mildred said. “Is what he said, true? Are we responsible for making this virus?”

Merrick sighed. “I’m afraid so, Ma’am.”

The general punched a button on his remote and a virtual image of a perfectly chiseled muscle man appeared on screen.

“Ten years ago,” Merrick said. “Certain forces in our government saw the writing was on the wall, that Americans were tired of constant wars, and people weren’t as accepting of the idea of a military draft as they used to be. Thus, a desire to create a new army of indestructible, super soldiers was born.”

Merrick hit a button and an image of Professor Goldthwaite popped up. “Ten years ago, Professor Abner Goldthwaite, once a renowned lecturer in the field of neuroscience, became a laughingstock when he published a paper claiming that through a combination of the right chemicals, proteins, bacteria and assorted enzymes, he had created an indestructible rat.”

“I remember that guy on TV,” Mildred said.

“Yes,” Merrick said. “He followed up his paper with videos in which he set the rat on fire, pounded it with a hammer, and even ran over it with his car and yet in each instance, the rat kept on scurrying along. Critics just assumed Abner had used special effects to make the rat look like he wasn’t hurt and thus, Abner became a pariah amongst his fellow scientists, mocked for being a shameless attention seeker.”

“Ahh,” Stugotz said. “So let me guess. You idiots hired him.”

“His rat was the real deal,” Merrick said. “And we hoped Goldthwaite’s research would lead to civilian applications. After all, super soldiers would be great, but super people would be even better. End the ability to cause physical harm to someone and you’ve ended all crime and all wars. Allow humans to live forever and they end up with unlimited time to seek out their hopes and dreams.”

“Dreams, schmeams,” Stugotz said. “It all got cocked up, didn’t it?”

Merrick pushed a button and twenty minutes’ worth of footage of Abner gassing human test subjects only for them to become hideous zombies played.

“Since 2007, Goldthwaite has made forty-eight separate attempts to construct a chemical agent that could turn humans indestructible,” Merrick said. “Alas, what worked in a rat only turns humans into mindless brain chomping bastards.”

“Well good luck with the court martial, dip stick,” Stugotz said as he popped a mint into his mouth.

“Me?” Merrick said. “I was ordered to start this program by one president and instructed to keep it going by another president.”

“I’m the president now and I don’t know a damn thing about this,” Stugotz said. “Mildred, do you know anything about this?”

Mildred coughed. “Ahem. I can categorically state that I do not recall whether or not I may or possibly may not be aware about any information regarding American involvement with the production of a zombifying virus. Further, if I could recall, it would be likely that I could not affirmatively state whether or not I recall due to concerns of national security.”

“God damn, Mildred,” Stugotz said. “You straight up lawyered the ever loving shit out of that one. High five.”

President and Vice-President slapped their hands together. Merrick shook his head.

“Oh great,” Merrick said. “So now you two finally agree on something?”

“Yup,” Mildred said. “If this fiasco gets out of hand…”

“…then its your ass that’s going to be getting it with no vaseline a la Ice Cube’s greatest hits, my friend,” Stugotz said.

Merrick grunted disapprovingly. “Story of my life.”

East Randomtown Mayor’s Race – Issue #1 – Zombie Flesh Eating Iguanas

oksmith-iguana-800px

Zombie Flesh Eating Iguanas: Friend or Foe?

Soon, it will be one year since the outbreak of a massive zombie apocalypse that engrossed East Randomtown.

The zombies are long gone in spirit but their flesh remains.  Boy howdy, do they remain because literally every surface in town is covered with zombie guts.

Cleanup efforts have been underway for quite some time, but they have barely scratched the surface.

Shortly after the zombie apocalypse concluded, scores of wild zombie flesh eating iguanas descended upon East Randomtown.  They’ve become a nuisance, almost like squirrels with scales.

But as it turns out, iguanas love the taste of zombie meat.

QUESTION: SHOULD THE ZOMBIE FLESH EATING IGUANAS BE ALLOWED TO STAY IN EAST RANDOMTOWN?

Mayoral candidates Bookshelf Q. Battler, proprietor of a website with 3.5 readers and Leo McKoy, the man who once delivered a sandwich to James Van Der Beek, have the floor.

shutterstock_236377597

Acting Mayor Battler

Thank you. As acting mayor, allow me to say that the zombie flesh eating iguanas are a welcome addition to our community.

Sure, they scurry around our feet and get in the way but the important thing to remember is that they are helping us get rid of the zombie carcasses that litter our town.

I don’t want to clean up all those zombie bodies. You don’t want to clean up those zombie bodies. If our little green friends are willing to eat the zombie bodies, then what’s the big deal?

Frankly, these zombie flesh eating iguanas are just eating the zombie flesh that East Randomtown’s current small animal population can’t be bothered to eat.

shutterstock_287109401

Mayoral Candidate McKoy

Battler, the last two brain cells in your stupid head need to hump and produce some more brain cells quick lest their entire kind go extinct, because what you just said was the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my entire life.

Who are these zombie flesh eating iguanas? What are they doing here? What do they want?

Has anyone ever bothered to ask them? Perhaps their long term goal is to eat us. Any of you yahoos ever stop and think of that?

When these iguanas are done eating all the dead zombie flesh, will they move along or will they become wards of the state that hard working tax paying Americans will have to support once the last bit of zombie flesh has been consumed?

What about East Randomtown’s squirrels?  What about our rats?  Mice? What about our pigeons?

What about our many, many trash animals have been scurrying about our streets aimlessly in search of opportunity?

Shouldn’t our own rodents get first dibs on all that zombie flesh before we start importing thousands and thousands of iguanas?

I can’t count the number of poor, downtrodden, starving badgers I’ve spoken to on the campaign trail who tell me that they can’t get a fair chance at a chunk of leftover zombie flesh because its all being scooped up by dastardly out of town iguanas from God only knows where.

Further, how do we know that consuming zombie flesh is good for anyone?  I’m no scientist, but it would seem to me that allowing iguanas to consume zombie flesh might very well turn those iguanas into a new species of rabid, man eating zombie iguanas.

Better safe than sorry, I always say. Tell those little green piles of puke to move on to the next town because we’ve got enough problems as it is.

There you have it, 3.5 readers. The candidates have sounded off on the very important iguana issue.  Who do you side with?  BQB or Leo McKoy?

Discuss in the comments.

RIP John McLaughlin

Hey 3.5 readers.

John McLaughlin, host of the McLaughlin group, died this week at age 89, which surprises me greatly because I thought he was 89 like 30 years ago.

Is that relevant to this blog?  Well, this blog is more about pop culture than politics but to make it short and sweet, you wouldn’t have the many, many, perhaps too many talking head pundit shows that you have today without John McLaughlin.

He had a certain style about him.  Or should I say, “formula?”

The formula:

  • Announce the issue and the number he has assigned to it.  Give the issue a snappy title.
  • Address one of the panelists with a quirky nickname. (Journalist Fred Barnes became “Freddie the Beatle Barnes” for example.
  • Shout “wrong!” then move on to the next panelist.
  • After every panelist was done, he’d declare they were all wrong and explain how his take on the issue was the most accurate one.

Admittedly, he wasn’t that bad.  But when I was a kid, I was in love with Saturday Night Live.

I think every kid who is into humor falls in love with SNL at some point.

Back in those days it was Dana Carvey, Adam Sandler, Kevin Nealon, Mike Myers, Chris Rock, etc.

Anyway, I used to watch Dana Carvey do his masterful impressions of the first President Bush, H. Ross Perot, the Church Lady, etc.

And then I’d do my rendition of Dana’s impression.

One of the funniest impressions Dana did was of John McLaughlin.  I’d incorporate it around the house, telling various family members they were, “wrong!”

Was I a no-life having kid who was into things that kids should find boring?

Was it that this was pre-10 million channels plus streaming everything and I didn’t have cable and only had like 5 channels?

A little from column A. A little from Column B.

Anyway, here’s a clip from NBC of Dana doing his John McLaughlin impression.

Saddest part is that Chris Farley is dead (heart attack) and Phil Hartman is dead (shot by wife).

Sigh.

Things that Really Frost My Ass – Uncle Hardass for President

By: Uncle Hardass, Official Bookshelf Battle Blog Grumpy Old Man Correspondent

shutterstock_267074402.jpg

In Hardass We Trust

Hello degenerate 3.5 readers.

Still working on your writing careers, I see.  Insert joke about how you’re all lazy bastards who need to quit writing and get jobs at the salt mines here.

So the presidential election is in full swing and for awhile I thought I might dip a toe into the old wading pool of muck that this contest has become.

Then I said to myself, “No Hardassimo.  You’re no spring chicken anymore. The kids want to see fresh faces with new ideas, not some wrinkled up old has been who has lost all hope after year after year of being put down by the man.”

But then I saw who you people are interested in.   Donald Trump?  Hillary Clinton? Bernie Sanders?

Holy shit.  Is this an election or a cocktail party at the Golden Girls condo?

Somebody hit the music. “Thank you for being a friend. Travel round the road and back again….”

Oh sorry. My incompetent nephew Bookshelf Q. Battler informs me that if I sing any more of that song I’ll owe Betty White a hundo.

Anyway, seeing as how Methuselah-esque politicians are in style this year, allow me to announce my candidacy right here on a blog with 3.5 readers, which might make you laugh, but keep in mind that most news website proprietors would sell their kidneys to black market organ traffickers just to get 2.5 readers.

The following is a brief synopsis of my platform.  You can like it or leave it, I really don’t give a crap.  In fact, you should leave it because you won’t understand any of it because you’re all so stupid.

EDUCATION

That’s right. I said it. You’re all incredibly stupid.

Don’t blame yourselves.  The public school system has failed you.

You know the Japanese kids get up at 3 a.m., go for a 50 mile jog, practice martial arts and break boards in half with their fists, feet and faces, study math, science, languages, quantum physics and so on and so forth until 2 a.m. the next day. Then they sleep for one hour and do it all over again.

Enough with the “high school is the best time of our lives” bullshit. Listen, if high school was the best time of your life, then you’re a loser.

No one likes high school.  High school memories only become moderately interesting when you’re seventy-five years old and suddenly you’d gladly give your entire nut sack away just to be that young kid getting pelted in the back of the head with spitballs all day instead of a decrepit old bastard who has to get up five thousand times a night to pee.

In short, my education system is simple. Beat the Japanese.

Oh, and get a job between 2 and 3 a.m. you lazy bastards. You can sleep when you die.

WORLD PEACE

My plan here is two-fold.

First, all of the poor, shitty countries need a one-hundred percent increase in pornographic access.

Look, I’m sorry, but all of these people are blowing themselves up out of frustration.

Get them some Internet.  Get them set up with some movies of some broads with gigantic knockers and you’ll see a 9,000 percent decrease in people being violent because they’ll all be too busy pounding the old flounder.

Why no one else has thought of this I don’t know but few will ever be as smart as I am.

Second, everyone needs to get jobs.  When you have jobs, you have money coming in and therefore you don’t want to do shit that will stop the money from coming in (like blow yourself up for example.)

Moreover, when you have a job, you just don’t have enough time to worry about petty bullshit that makes you hate people enough to want to blow them up.  “That guy doesn’t believe in the same god as I do.  That guy doesn’t read the same holy book as I do…who gives a shit? I have to go to work tomorrow so I can get my ass paid, son.”

Porn.  Jobs.  Spread both around the world and pretty soon everyone will be joining their sticky hands together to sing a chorus of “kumbaya.”

THE ECONOMY

You. Right there. The dumb ass reading this.

My plan for you is simple.

Get a job!

What? You can’t find a job?

Get any job!

What? You can’t find anything?

Really?  Have you tried:

  • Volunteering and/or developing the skills necessary to turn yourself from a useless sack of crap into a productive member of society? As President, I will be opening a “Useless Sack of Crap Reeducation Center” in every state where you can go to learn how to not be a useless sack of crap.
  • Have you sold your hair, teeth, and superfluous body parts? All will be considered currency under my regime.
  • Have you sold your bodily orifices to complete strangers for pennies on the dollar? Prostitution will be legalized under my administration.  Our criminal justice system is much too clogged as it is without having to worry about prosecuting women just for trying to make you holla for a dolla.
  • Finally, and here’s the most important part.  Get a job…AND…feel like a total dumbass until you secure the aforementioned job.  Once you do have a job, you will join the ranks of the self-righteous and enjoy the tremendous feeling of chewing out useless layabouts who do not have jobs.

TRADE

When engaging in business deals with other nations, the two most important questions are, “Do you want this shit?” and “How much you got?”

The key, you see, is to find the countries that will a) want our shit and b) pay as much as or as close to the amount they got as possible.

By the way, I recently heard some news about child labor that is very disturbing.

We don’t have it here in America and I am very disturbed by that.

Seriously.  You park your kids’ dumb asses in front of the TV for 18 years then wonder why they grow up to become self-absorbed douchebags who start shooting up the joint the first time someone tells them “no?”

I had my first job thirty seconds out of the womb and the only thing I am ashamed of is that it took me that long.

Put the kids to work assembling smart phones for ten cents an hour while some schmuck beats a drum to make sure they go at a steady pace.  I’m telling you, they will grow up to become very productive, high performing, well adjusted adults like yours truly.

CRIME

Stop stealing shit and get a job. Professional stealer of shit is one of few jobs that will be deemed unacceptable.

CONCLUSIONS

These are the broad strokes of my platform thus far and I’ll be revising as the campaign moves forward.

If you forget this column, at least remember:

  • I’m running for president so vote for me, dumb ass.
  • Get a job.
  • Seriously, quit your futile attempts at becoming a writer and get jobs, preferably at the salt mines, so that your parents can be proud of you for once.

Stop Sucking with Vinny Baggadouchio – Why Does the World Suck?

shutterstock_669906521

World Renowned Motivational Speaker, Anti-Suck Book Author and Bookshelf Battle Blog Columnist, Vinny Baggadouchio

I’m Vinny Baggadouchio and if sucking is the disease, then I’m the cure.

If you’ve come down with a bad case of suck, then pick up one of my anti-suck books today:

Be the Not Sucking Person You Were Meant to Be

101 Ways Suckiness Creeps Into Your Life

Stop Sucking This Instant

Goodbye, Suck. Hello Not-Sucking.

Don’t Stop Sucking Tomorrow. Stop Sucking Today!

Why Do Sucky Things Happen to Non-Sucking People?

Drop That Suck!

Don’t Want to Suck? You’re In Luck!

The news sure has sucked lately, hasn’t it 3.5 readers?

In fact, a whole lot of suckage has happened in Orlando, which is surprising, because you’d think between the great weather, cartoon mouse park, the wannabe cartoon mouse park, that park where they make whales do tricks, all the beaches filled with scantily clad women and the ability to buy oranges anywhere every two minutes, it  all blends into a very not-sucky place.

But so much tragedy struck in the course of a few days.  A budding singer was shot dead. 50 gay people were killed in a night club. Another 50 wounded.

Plus a kid got eaten by a damn alligator.

So much suck.  So, so much suck.

3.5 readers, I have counseled world leaders and useless peons such as yourselves through very dark times and inevitably, someone always poses the following question to me:

Why does the world suck?

What a loaded question. I’m tempted to say that question sucks but in as much as it gets the mental gears turning, it does not suck at all.

Before I reach an answer, I must first back track to another inquiry:

Does the world, in fact, suck?

You’ll notice the subtle difference between the two questions.

The first one presupposes a sucky world and seeks knowledge as to why it does suck.

The second does not automatically assume a sucky world but rather inquires whether or not it sucks.

“Does the world suck?”

It all boils down to a matter of perspective. What sucks to one does not suck to another.

Suck is truly in the eye of the beholder, or perhaps I should say, in the eye of the be-sucker.

I’m paid big bucks to stop the sucks. Thus, life seems pretty good to me. The world is my oyster.  And it tastes like it doesn’t suck.

But for the many, many suckers out there, life sucks and by extension, they view the world as a sucky place.

Life is precious. We are all given a short, finite supply of time to not suck in this world.  Everyone should do their best to not suck.

Yet, many aren’t able to escape the feeling that their lives suck and therefore by extension the world sucks.

The world’s supply of suck ebbs and flows. Sometimes its suck cup runneth over. Other times it putters along at an excellent, suck free pace.

Overall, all non-suckers must not taking their suck-less lives for granted. They must cherish them and do what they can to guide suckers by the hand and walk with them hand in hand down the road to non-suckitude.

Many suckers are out there wallowing in their own suck filth, waiting for a kind non-sucker to show them the way to not-sucking.

Meanwhile, many suckers are so stuck in their sucky ways that try as they might, no one is able to snap them out of this suck spirals.

As much as it sucks to admit it, even I, a world renowned anti-suck expert, have met a few suckers who I wasn’t able to rehabilitate and turn into productive non-sucking members of society.

On top of all that, many suckers become suckers, not due to any sucky things they did per se, but because they are trapped in environments, situations, or circumstances that suck.

Non-suckers will always have a duty to work towards desuckifying that which sucks up life for so many sucky people.

So does the world suck?  It all really depends on your perspective.

To get to the original question – “Why Does the World Suck?”

That, too, is a question with so many answers.

It’s never easy to go through sucky times.

And in the wake of sucky tragedies, it’s only human nature to want to know what can be done to keep all the suck from sucking up people’s lives again.

To answer the question, I could go on for days.

I could talk about:

  • The history of the world and more specifically, how so many sucky activities that transpired in the past have led to a sucky world today.
  • The need for the present day world to come to terms with its sucky past and more importantly, learn to find a way to embrace a suck free future.
  • The sucky political climate where suck-a-ticians from both sides retreat to their own corners and suck rather than engage one another in suck-free dialogue on how to rid the world of suckage.
  • The downward suck-conomy, in which it has become so difficult for sucky people to find jobs that will turn them into productive non-suckers, and the ensuing despair that leads non-suckers down the path to suckitude.
  • The need for parents to embrace suck free lifestyles and become positive role models to thus inspire the next generation to not be suckers.
  • The necessity for suck free and less sucky parts of the world to continue their quest for non-suckitude and the corresponding need for regions of the world that suck to work towards desuckifying themselves or at the very least, to not export ideas that suck to not-sucking parts of the world, thus descending the entire world into suckage.
  • The adoption of a “Don’t suck and let suck motto.” Non-suckers can’t force suckers to become non-suckers over night. Rather, suckers need to learn how to not suck by making mistakes on their own and eventually reaching the conclusion that they must change their ways and not suck. Only then can non-suckers make a difference and lend a helping, non-sucking hand.
  • Until that happens, suckers and non-suckers alike must learn to live together and be happy, each side agreeing to enjoy the goods, services and opportunities of the modern world without trying to foist their believes vis a vis sucking or not-sucking upon one another.

I could write a book on each of those points (wait a minute, I have!) but suffice to say, I believe the world itself does not suck.

The world is water and trees and land and so on. At its core, it does not suck. It is the things that sucky people do that make it suck.

To non-suckers, the world does not suck.  To suckers, it does.

What can be done to rectify the situation?

Non-suckers must continue to embrace their suck free parts of the world.  Help those who shout, “I don’t want to suck anymore! Teach me how!”

Suckers must keep their suck to themselves and not export it to suck free parts.

And while it’s never a fun concept to talk about, non-suckers must be vigilant and take the necessary security measures to keep suckage from spilling over into their not-sucking areas.

Keep moving forward. Keep not-sucking. Be an inspiration to all those who suck yet aspire to not-suck.

Thanks for your time, non-suckers and suckers alike.
