Dig if you will the picture, of BQB and his 3.5 readers embraced in sadness today as we mourn the loss of super funkadelic pop star Prince Rogers Nelson.
Yes. Prince’s name really was Prince. With a name like Prince, it would have been a waste had he become a claims adjuster or some such nonsense so he used his moniker to its fullest potential and became the manliest son of a bitch to wear frilly antique shirts and purple coats.
Oh Prince. You will be missed.
Purple Rain. When Doves Cry. You know, people haven’t mentioned this as much but my first exposure to his music was when he performed songs on the original Batman (1989) movie soundtrack. Like the Joker, Prince’s color was purple.
Will there ever be another music legend capable of sporting that much purple?
I don’t know. But let us take a moment of silence. And then, let us listen to his hits and get funky.
I confess I absolutely cannot understand this national outcry. I mean, do we know how old Franz Schubert was when he died? Thirty three. THIRTY THREE. And in relative poverty, not owning a mansion with an elevator to be found dead in or an airplane to emergency-land when he got ill. And he wrote actual *music*, not poppity-pop radio songs designed to distract people from the horror of having to hear their own thoughts. Songs. Symphonies. Chamber music. Piano impromptus. Work that’s survived for almost two centuries. I bet none of these people boo-hooing about an “artist” who seems to have been 75% PR could even recognize a single theme of them. And that’s just one of the real (not commercially created) musicians of the last ten centuries whose music you can’t even hear in most American cities because the radio stations that play their work can’t find support. Don’t ask me to cry for a rich pop star.
I mean, even this morning at the vet the staff behind the counter were togged out in purple. I thought it was a Kool-Aid convention.
Eh…I liked him. I’m not beside myself with woe but he was one of the 80s greats. Few men in frilly shirts can get that many chicks

He’s only moderately frilly 😛
Close enough for jazz.
